CMU LTI Language Technology for All Internship 2026

The LTI is currently seeking applicants for the summer 2026 Language Technology for All Internship

Are you interested in learning more about the world of language technology, like ChatGPT, Google Translate, or talking robots?

The Language Technologies Institute in Carnegie Mellon University is recruiting interns for Summer 2026. The topic of the internship will be “Language Technology For All,” where you will focus on performing research on cutting-edge language systems to make them more accurate, efficient, or inclusive.

Internship topics are broad, and some example topics are:

  • Develop multilingual and multimodal conversational speech-processing systems
  • Research low-resource languages
  • Develop AI methods for analyzing complex historical documents
  • Study disagreements in LLM labeling of subjective content to improve fairness across cultures
  • Study privacy and safety in LLM use, with emphasis on differential privacy

The main goal of this internship is to provide opportunities to pre-doctoral students who are interested in starting work in the field of language technology. You will work together with a CMU faculty member on a research project, with the goal being that you build skills while performing cutting-edge research. We particularly encourage interns who are:

  1. Interested in making more inclusive language technology, and/or
  2. Come from backgrounds relevant to language technology outside of computer science (e.g. linguistics, cognitive science, sociology, etc.)

If you are a student looking to get into, or expand your depth in research in language technology, we encourage you to apply!

The internship will be for 12-14 weeks over the summer (mid-May to Mid-September) in-person at CMU’s campus in Pittsburgh. We will pay for your travel to Pittsburgh, and provide a stipend to cover your housing and daily expenses.

Application Deadline: February 20, 2026, 11:59pm East-coast time
